Apple May Allow China Telecom To Sell iPhone 4S

APPLE Inc may be close to allowing China Telecom to sell the new iPhone 4S which will debut on the Chinese mainland on Friday with China Unicom, its current sole partner, media reported yesterday.

Apple and China Telecom will launch the iPhone 4S in March, Sina.com said yesterday, without citing any sources.

Apple and China Telecom both declined to comment on the issue.

China Telecom is the country's third biggest telecommunications company with 33 million 3G users and the latest move will help Apple to expand its sale channels in China, the world's biggest mobile phone market, industry insiders said.

The iPhone 4S model for China Telecom will operate on the CDMA2000 (code division multiple access) 3G standard that the telco has adopted.
