Apple introduces Chinese features for next-generation products
APPLE Inc will launch specific features for users in China in its next-generation iPhone, iPad and Mac computer operating systems, Apple said at its annual developer conference in San Francisco on Monday.
The new functions include voice assistant Siri in Mandarin along with an Internet browser and photo album supporting Sina Weibo, Apple said. It was the first Apple conference in which functions specifically for China were introduced.
During the conference, Apple also launched the new Macbook Air and Macbook Pro computers and debuted the next-generation Macbook Pro with a super-thin design and high-resolution "Retina" display screen.
The new systems, now available for developers only, will be available in stores within one or two months.
Other Chinese functions will include easier Chinese language input, a Chinese dictionary, new default search tool Baidu and support for video sites Youku and Tudou.
Previously, Apple included NetEase's e-mail service as the default mode on iPhones sold in China.
Apple reported in April that robust sales of the iPhone in China helped the company nearly double its profit to US$11.62 billion in its fiscal second quarter.
About US$7.9 billion of US$39.2 billion in revenue for the quarter was generated in China, which tripled from a year ago.
