Apple sees market share at record high
APPLE achieved a record high market share for its smartphones in China as its flagship iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models sold strongly, according to a latest survey.
In the three months from December 2014 to February 2015, Apple’s market share rose to 27.6 percent from 25.4 percent in the November-January period, according to consumer research firm Kantar Worldpanel’s smartphone tracking service Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.
But the survey, which covered 15,000 urban mobile phone users in China, didn’t release sales figures for Apple’s smartphones.
Apple tapped the robust sales of the two flagship models as well as older models to grab the top spot in the ranking of smartphone manufacturers, according to Tamsin Timpson, strategic insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech Asia.
“There has been a strong appetite for Apple’s products in urban China since the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus,” Carolina Milanesi, chief of research at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, said in a statement.
Meanwhile Android’s share reached 70.9 percent in the three months ended in February this year, down from 72.8 percent in the November-January period.
The top three best sellers were iPhone 6, Xiaomi’s RedMi Note and iPhone 6 Plus, with the iPhone 6 lifting its share to 10.2 percent from 9.5 percent in the three months ending January.
