Apple still needs government approval to launch iPhone 6 in China

APPLE Inc hasn't decided the date of next-generation iPhone's debut in the Chinese mainland, probably because of lack of government approval or enough 4G network support, Shanghai Daily learned today.

The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in the mainland market on September 26, media reported in the morning, citing links on Apple China websites. But Apple deleted related links in the afternoon and marked the debut date "to be released" on the website.

Apple still needs approval from the regulator on new iPhone's introduction into the Chinese mainland, according to Sina.com.

Meanwhile, China Unicom and China Telecom are only allowed to offer 4G services based on FDD-LTE (frequency division duplex-long term evolution) technology in about 30 cities nationwide. The FDD-LTE is widely used in the Western market.

China Mobile, the world's biggest mobile carrier, had offered 4G services based on China-developed TD-LTE (time division-LTE) technology. Apple's iPhone 6 models support the TD-LTE network.

Apple has already cut price of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models. The iPhone 5s now cost with a starting price of 4,288 yuan (US$691), 800 yuan cheaper compared with previous price.
