Baidu Union expects income to double
BAIDU, China’s largest search engine operator, said yesterday that online search revenue allocated to its Baidu Union partners this year will nearly double to 7 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion) on quick growth in mobile traffic and a more efficient advertising system.
The overall mobile traffic of the partners jumped 22 times over the past year and covered about 15 percent of the total mobile traffic in the country, said Ma Guolin, general manager of the business development at Baidu Union.
Baidu partners with smaller website owners to display online advertising of its customers on these websites, and share the advertising fees generated by these advertisements with the Baidu Union members.
There are more than 700,000 Baidu Union members, and Ma expects that as many as 10 of them will be able to get more than 100 million yuan of search-based advertising income this year.
Later this year, Baidu will also offer financial subsidy for small-sized website owners through leveraging its long-term collaboration with the Baidu Union members.
Baidu will also provide a 1 billion yuan of subsidy this year to smartphone application developers to help them and small websites customize their web pages on mobile devices for a better view.
Last year, Baidu bought third-party app distribution software firm 91 Wireless for US$1.9 billion to boost its presence in the mobile Internet sector.
