Big surge in infections
MORE than 12.8 million global handsets were infected by malicious mobile applications or programs in the first six months, up an annual 177 percent, China's biggest mobile security firm said yesterday in Shanghai.
Over 25.7 percent of the infected phones were from Chinese mainland, ranking No. 1 in the world, followed by Russia's 17.4 percent, the US' 16 percent and India's 15.4 percent, said Beijing-based NQ Mobile which has 200 million users, including 45 percent from overseas regions.
Over 78 percent of the infected models were Android models, followed by Nokia's Symbian system with 19 percent. Apple's iPhone and iPad devices are safe, said Lin Yu, NQ Mobile's CEO.
