Bluetooth sales set to surge as use spreads
THE booming smart home market, popularity of wearable devices and wireless applications used in retail industry are set to boost sales of Bluetooth devices, an industry alliance said yesterday in Shanghai.
These Bluetooth devices will feature more smart, energy-efficient, affordable and safe Bluetooth technology, the alliance added.
More than 3 billion smart devices are expected to feature Bluetooth and by 2019 there are likely to be 4.4 billion units as Chinese vendors like Lenovo, Huawei and Xiaomi contribute to the growth, according to Bluetooth Special Interest Group.
The sales of Bluetooth devices are set to soar 106 percent on average from 2014 to 2019, followed by 85 percent in the retail industry and 59 percent in fitness and wearable devices, said SIG, citing figures from IHS Technology, a US-based research firm.
“Bluetooth is the center of Internet of Things, representing intelligence and future,” Mark Powell, executive director of Bluetooth SIG, said yesterday.
The Internet of Things refers to wireless connection among smartphones, computers, TVs, cameras, fitness gadgets and automotives.
