Boosting Internet is key focus

CHINA'S plans to build a next-generation Internet network by 2015 will improve Internet penetration rate as well as create 3 million new jobs and a new system which can hold more Internet addresses.
China's Internet penetration rate will rise above 45 percent by the end of 2015 from 38.3 percent in 2011, according to a statement issued yesterday by government bureaus including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
China will adopt the large-scale commercial use of the next-generation Internet system, the IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6), which is an upgrade from the current IPv4 whose IP addresses are about to be all used up. The IPv6 may hold Internet addresses that are a billion to a trillion times larger than the total pool of IPv4 addresses, experts said.
The new IPv6 network bandwidth can reach 2.5-10 gigabytes per second, 100 times faster than the Internet speed now.
Upgrading to the IPv6 network will create global high-tech firms and create 3 million jobs, the statement said.
