Canon bets on China despite fall in sales
CANON, which shipped 110 million camera lens globally until last month, yesterday said China still had a market for professional photographic devices and related services despite a slump in the sales of compact cameras.
Besides cameras, there was still a huge market potential for lenses, wireless printing and photo storage, the world’s biggest camera maker said.
“Consumers require complete services than just cameras such as Canon’s Imagine Plus,” said Noriko Gunji, vice president of Canon China.
Chinese consumers prefer flagship models like EOS 5DS R compared with the popularity of entry-level Canon models in Japan. Therefore Chinese users invest heavily on related products and services like lens, printing and storage devices, said Gunji.
Canon has cooperated with Baidu.com to offer consumers online cloud-based printing services. It also offers printers, from entry-level models costing less than 500 yuan (US$81) to those costing about 1,700 yuan. It has a family station with Wi-Fi and storage features that give users the chance to share pictures across Canon cameras, handsets and TVs.
