Canon sees fast growth in user base

CANON Inc, which opened a new showroom in Shanghai yesterday, expects a rapid growth in the number of female and tourist camera users in China.
The world’s biggest camera maker, which is being challenged by smartphones like iPhone with vastly improved camera, said demand for professional cameras hasn’t disappeared, especially for the China market, according to Kazuto Ogawa, executive vice president of Canon China.
“People always like high-quality pictures during traveling and taking selfies. We have seen great potential in female, children and aged people market segment in China,” Kazuto said during an interview in Shanghai yesterday.
But Canon declined to reveal sale figures or forecasts.
