Canon sees strong demand to lift growth
CANON Corp expects the revenue of the professional printer business in China to grow by “double digits” this year and becoming a new income engine, the Japan-based firm said yesterday.
Canon’s business imaging division, which offers professional printers for construction and advertising firms, saw revenue grow by 11 percent year on year in 2013. The growth rate is set to be “double digits” and higher than that level this year, according to Shuichi Watanabe, Canon China’s senior vice president.
“It’s a relatively new business in China but it has a great potential here,” Watanabe said during the Shanghai Int’l Ad & Sign Technology & Equipment Exhibition, which will close on Sunday.
The publication, construction and advertising sectors are propelling demand for large-format printers in China. Digital printing only accounts for 1 percent of all printed materials in China, compared with 10 percent in the Western markets, which offers great potential, said Canon. The firm was forced to find new income engines after its camera sales fell in 2013.
