Cell phone sales rise

ZTE Corp posted a 40 percent surge in net profit in the first quarter, thanks to the high growth in the mobile phone business, the Shenzhen-listed firm said yesterday.
ZTE, the country's biggest public telecommunications equipment company, gained a profit of 109.8 million yuan (US$16.1 million), a 39.8 percent annual growth.
The revenue was 13.3 billion yuan, a 13.6 percent rise from a year ago.
In the first three months, ZTE's mobile phone business income expanded 41.8 percent, thanks to high-end sales of 3G models, according to the company.
