China UnionPay, China Mobile to launch mobile payment services
CHINA UnionPay, the country's sole bankcard transaction firm, said it has teamed up with China Mobile to provide mobile payment services.
Under the agreement, China Mobile will allow mobile phone users to pay credit card bills and make purchases at convenient stores or automatic vending machines through their subscriber identity module (SIM) card. The service allows users to connect their bank account with their mobile phone number. They then can swipe their handset to pay bills or pay for purchases.
A trial service will start in several domestic cities in the near future.
The two parties will also work closely on developing other mobile payment solutions.
