China liable for 90% of PCB firm’s output
CHINA will contribute about 90 percent of the production capacity of Austria-based printed circuit board maker AT&S after the company’s Chongqing plant also becomes fully operational by 2017, AT&S said in Shanghai.
The Austrian firm, which also has a Shanghai facility, has invested US$624 million in the Chongqing plant to upgrade technology and next-generation products such as high-end PCBs and integrated circuit substrates.
After thw two plants are fully operational, more than 90 percent of the company production will come from China in 2017, up from 79 percent now, according to Andreas Gerstenmayer, CEO of AT&S.
“We saw a disproportional high benefit from the strong growth in the area of mobile devices, especially smartphones, and from the constantly increasing share of electronics in the automotive sector,” said Gerstenmayer.
Chinese OEM or original equipment manufacturers are set to require high-end PCB products, which are key materials in semiconductor manufacturing.
