China sales of software, IT services surge 17%
THE combined revenue from sales of software and IT services in China surged in the first five months of the year, the country’s top economic planning agency said yesterday.
Sales in the period rose 17.1 percent year on year to 1.59 trillion yuan (US$256 billion), the National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement.
The growth rate surpassed the 10.4 percent recorded for overall retail sales in the same period, the statement said.
Sales of smart TVs jumped 60 percent in May alone, the commission said, without providing absolute figures.
Smartphones and wearable devices also sold well, it said.
Meanwhile, online sales rose by 39 percent in the first half of the year, thanks to a host of new products and improved business models, the statement said, again without providing absolute figures.
China’s gross domestic product rose 7 percent year on year in the second quarter, unchanged from the first three months.
