China鈥檚 3D printer market expects rapid expansion
The Chinese 3D printer market will grow rapidly over the next several years due to technology upgrade, government involvement and popularity of entry-level products, Stratasys Ltd, the world’s biggest 3D printer vendor, said yesterday.
Stratasys, which launched a new color multi-material 3D printer in Shanghai, sees a 20 percent growth in global revenue to US$470-490 million this year.
China is “absolutely the fastest growing region worldwide,” said Jonathan Jaglom, general manager of Stratasys Asia-Pacific and Japan.
“I haven’t seen any other countries like China with so heavy government involvement in 3D printing.”
China regards development of the 3D printing industry as a national strategy.
Stratasys has offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong. It has over 160 employees nationwide, one-tenth of its global staff.
Dubbed “the third industrial revolution,” 3D printing refers to the process of making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital model. The 3D printers are used in automative, consumer electronics, design, education and aerospace industries.
While a premier new 3D printer costs 3 million yuan (US$490,000), entry-level 3D printers priced from 20,000 to 30,000 yuan will be popular in China, Stratasys said.
