Chinese features in iOS 6
CHINESE users of the iPhone and iPad are now able to use the new iOS 6 mobile operating system, which incorporates features popular in the country.
The iOS 6 update provides users with 200 new features, including a Chinese-language Siri, Baidu search platform and Sina Weibo. It is the first time for Siri, Apple's personal voice assistant, to speak Chinese.
The iOS 6 was made available to users yesterday.
The Google Map is replaced by a map service developed by Beijing-based AutoNavi for users on the Chinese mainland.
The iOS 6 has an up-to-date Chinese dictionary and handwriting recognition support for more than 30,000 Chinese characters. Mainland users can also share videos directly to Youku Tudou, the biggest domestic video sharing website.
Users can also post to Sina Weibo, a Twitter equivalent and China's top social website with 300 million users, directly from iPhone or iPad.
