Chinese firms to develop new mobile system
CHINESE technology firms will develop a new mobile system by 2017 to compete with Google's Anroid and Apple's iOS and the new system is expected to boost global smartphone sales by fourfold, a UK-based research firm said.
China's Alibaba and Baidu will develop the new mobile system while firms like Xiaomi will focus on improving services and online sales. Their endeavor plus low-cost models priced below US$100 will make China's smartphone sales account for over 60 percent of the total sales of emerging markets by 2017, according to Ovum.
Global smartphone shipments will reach 1.7 billion units in 2017 with emerging markets experiencing faster growth.
