Corning diligent in improving human life
Corning Inc will focus on pollution control, clean energy, new materials used in telecommunications, display and architecture at its biggest research facility in Asia by investment that opened in Shanghai yesterday.
The China Research Lab, in the Jinqiao Export Processing Zone in the Pudong New Area, will develop new technologies on substrates used in gas emission control, the next-generation display glass used in phones and LCD TVs and fiber optic sensors for telecommunications.
“The lab is another vigorous example to reflect Corning’s commitment to developing locally to provide local customers with better services and improve people’s life,” said Li Fang, president and general manager of Corning China.
Although the investment figure of the new Shanghai research center was not available, Fu Xiaodong, director of Corning Asia Research Labs, said that it’s the most-invested research center in Asia, compared with Corning’s centers in Taiwan and India.
So far, Corning has invested US$3 billion in China, including a display glass plant in Beijing and an automotive substrate facility in Shanghai which helps reduce harmful emissions from cars, trucks and heavy-duty diesel vehicles.
Corning said the company spends 10 percent of its revenue annually on research and development.
