Court rules against Qihoo in monopoly suit

GUANGDONG Province Higher People's Court today ruled against Qihoo 360 after it filed a lawsuit accusing rival Tencent of exploiting its monopolistic position in the market.
Qihoo 360 was seeking 150 million yuan (US$23.8 million) compensation and a public apology from Tencent.
The court ordered Qihoo to pay 790,000 yuan in legal costs.
Qihoo said it hasn't decided whether to take the case to the Supreme People's Court.
The Beijing-based company launched the lawsuit in January 2011 and the court heard the case in April last year.
Tencent, China's largest Internet company, countersued Qihoo in September, accusing it of illicit competition and damaging the reputation of its online chat program. Tencent is seeking 125 million yuan compensation in the case although the Guangdong court hasn't announced a verdict.
