Developers to get US$16m
TENCENT said yesterday it will provide 100 million yuan (US$16 million) worth of subsidies to third-party developers.
Vice President Dowson Tang said the company will encourage more partners to develop applications or provide services that target specific groups of users, such as those who are interested in online gaming, travel or entertainment news.
“We hope to allow more external service providers to diversify our services offering to users and enable more players to engage in the community age,” he said.
Tencent’s online chatting tool QQ’s online communities hope not only to provide connection between users, but also “link users with various kinds of services,” he said.
Liu Xiankai, general manager of the value-added service department at Tencent, said: “Online communities on QQ give ordinary users a chance to discuss their topics of interest and give feedback to the writer of the novel or the producers of the entertainment shows.”
