Double-digit growth in 3D printer income
THE revenue of the professional 3D printer market in China will grow by at least double digits in 2014 as the popularity of such printers will trigger demand, Stratasys Ltd, the world’s biggest 3D printer vendor, said yesterday in Shanghai.
With the debut of new color and multi-material 3D printers earlier this year, the Chinese market expects to see revenue grow by “at least double-digit” rate this year, Harry Wang, Stratasys China’s general manager, said in an interview at the Die & Mould China 2014 show in Shanghai.
Also likely to be popular are family-used or entry-level 3D printers with better functions and prices starting from 10,000 yuan (US$1,600), down from 20,000-30,000 yuan previously, Nasdaq-listed Stratasys said.
The 3D printing technology is widely used by aerospace, automotive, consumer goods, consumer electronics, education, medical and dental companies in China.
“It greatly improves work efficiency and saves cost in design and modeling processes among manufacturers, from several weeks to several hours,” Wang said.
The 3D printing refers to the process of making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital model. China’s 3D printing market will grow to 10 billion yuan in 2016 from 1 billion yuan in 2012, analysts said.
