Etao.com in bid to become online shopping mecca
ETAO.COM, the online shopping search site of Taobao, said it will join hands with various shopping websites to allow customers to easily compare prices, services, logistics and payment information on the Internet.
Alibaba Group will also inject 1 billion yuan (US$157 million) to help independent B2C sites advertise themselves and attract more customers.
After one year of operation, Etao now includes product information from around 5,000 independent shopping websites and 600 daily deals sites.
"Online shopping search site will eventually prosper in China as it can help customers screen and choose millions of items from various shopping websites," said Hu Yanping, director at Data Center of China Internet.
"Etao has a deep understanding of the online shopping scene and will prove to be a very important source for independent shopping websites to gain their visitors and potential buyers," said iResearch analyst You Tiayu.
