Ex-Alibaba GM held for alleged bribery

A former general manager at Alibaba Group's daily deals site Juhuasuan has been arrested on allegations of bribery, the company said yesterday.

Yan Limin, who was sacked in March together with three other employees for misconduct of duty uncovered during an earlier internal investigation, is detained by Hangzhou police for allegedly taking bribes and the case is still under investigation, the e-commerce company said in a statement.

Alibaba has recently been stepping up the fight against corruption and nine vendors on its Taobao Marketplace and Tmall were handed to the police in May for alleged bribery and their stalls closed down.

In the first half of this year, Alibaba's anti-corruption unit found 28 employees were connected with misconduct in dealings and seven of them have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Earlier this month, Alibaba named former group secretary-general Shao Xiaofeng as chief risk officer and tighten internal anti-corruption process.
