Fast Wi-Fi set as norm for business aircraft
HIGH-SPEED connectivity and enhanced mobile features are set to be standard in the booming business aviation industry in China, a US-based airline information management services provider said yesterday.
Rockwell Collins, a provider of information management services to private jet owners and operators, expects demand to soar for high-speed Wi-Fi connection and new applications for flight planning using iPads, Michael Dupuis, manager of the company’s ARINCDirect Asia-Pacific, said during the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition, which closed yesterday in Shanghai.
“The new cabin connectivity speed will hit 10 megabits a second, just like your home broadband,” said Dupuis.
Rockwell Collins’ ARINCDirect provides flight planning, international trip support, weather, fuel-saving and cabin communications services to about 60 percent of business jets in the Chinese business aviation market.
Meanwhile, the company has developed an iPad application for private jet pilots to make accurate computations in an easy and “paperless” method.
About 250 business jets are set to be sold on the Chinese mainland this year, a jump of over 15 percent year on year, said research firm AMSTAT.
