Fighting to save online copyright

CHINA’S market for combating online copyright breaches is expected to grow about 30 percent annually and to soon hit 500 billion yuan (US$73 billion) a year.
The growth is being driven by increased use of digital entertainment services and smart devices, a forum at the Shanghai International Film Festival heard yesterday.
Demand is booming for online copyright protection and illegal content tracking, analysts said.
About 30 executives from 19 countries and regions have gathered in Shanghai to discuss technological advances in international cooperation on copyright protection, including video and gaming.
“Online copyright protection is fundamental for the healthy and sustainable development of the Internet industry in China, with the world’s biggest Internet user base,” said Wu Guanyong, chairman of Shanghai-based Firstbrave Information Technologies, an online copyright protection company.
With its booming Internet industries, China’s experience can help other countries, said Sylvie Forbin, deputy director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
