Firm aims to sell 1m 3D printers globally
CHINA will surpass the United States and Europe to become XYZprinting’s biggest regional market and help the company target sales of 1 million 3D printers globally within three years until 2016, the company said yesterday.
XYZprinting aims to sell more than 100,000 3D printers this year as the market expands in China and the US, with entry-level 3D printers starting from 3,999 yuan (US$641).
To meet Chinese demand, XYZprinting has started production of 3D printers in Suzhou and Dongguan, said Simon Shen, chairman of XYZprinting, a subsidiary of New Kinpo Group.
The firm also aims to improve profit margins by going into the “semi-professional” market with new products, targeting not only consumers and designers but industrial users, Shen said.
“The technological development has made 3D printer interesting gadgets instead of expensive equipment in the labs,” Shen said, adding that design, jewelry, medical and other industrial markets will be able to benefit.
US-based 3D printer giants have also launched cheaper versions for family use such as the MakerBot device which costs 10,999 yuan on Chinese online shopping site JD.com.
The global sales of 3D printers will reach 2.3 million units in 2018, almost 10 times the figure in 2015, with most sales coming from ordinary consumers, according to estimates.
