Firms form alliance to promote IT industry
A GROUP of information technology firms yesterday announced the launch of a new alliance designed to boost cooperation and promote the industry’s development.
Authorized by the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology Development, the industry regulator, the “Mega-collaboration Alliance of China” includes Internet suppliers, telecom firms, and hardware and software manufacturers, including Oracle, Huawei, China Unicom and Seeyon Software.
“New technologies have changed the industry ecosystem,” said Fu Xinhua, deputy head of the commission.
Under the alliance, members will share resources and information, and drive the development of the “Internet Plus” initiative, he said.
The initiative is a state-level plan to bolster economic growth by integrating the Internet with traditional industries. Already, sectors such as finance, entertainment, education and health care have established new markets online.
Gan Yong, vice president of business management software provider Seeyon, said yesterday that he expects the alliance to provide many new opportunities for collaboration and integration between members, especially in emerging sectors such as cloud computing and mobile Internet services.
Shanghai’s information technology industry generated 280 billion yuan (US$45.1 billion) in revenue in the first half, up 18 percent year on year, the commission said.
