Former China Mobile official gets life term

A former senior executive at China Mobile has been sentenced to life after being found guilty of receiving more than 20 million yuan (US$3.3 million) in bribes and his wife got a suspended three-year jail term for common bribery, media reports said.

Lu Xiangdong, 53, was the executive director and vice president of the world’s largest mobile phone carrier by subscribers and also vice president of its listed unit in Hong Kong.

Lu is likely to appeal after he refused to accept the verdict, Caixin Online reported yesterday.

Lu’s 26 years of telecommunication experience included being head of the Fujian Mobile Communications Bureau and a deputy head of the mobile communications bureau under the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
