Global 4.5G commercial use by 2016

THE 4.5-generation mobile network, which is three to 10 times faster than the 4G network, will be used commercially worldwide in 2016, Huawei Technologies Co said yesterday.
The 4.5G technology offers a peak network speed from 300 megabits per second to 1,000mbps, up from about 100mbps on the 4G networks. It will boost new applications like ultra high-definition video content and connections among smart devices like automobiles and home appliances.
The technology is expected to be used in the smart city, smart medical and intelligent agriculture sectors, said Ying Weimin, president of wireless network research at Huawei, China’s biggest telecommunications equipment maker.
The 4.5G is a transition technology between 4G and 5G networks, which has been tested in some countries and regions such as Hong Kong and South Korea, according to analysts.
