Global sales of wearable items triple
GLOBAL sales of wearable devices tripled year on year in the third quarter due to the debut of Apple Watch and low-cost devices of Chinese technology companies, research firm IDC said yesterday.
The total sales of wearable device sales hit 21 million units in the third quarter, a surge of 197.6 percent year on year. The top-five brands were Fitbit with 22.2 percent market share, followed by Apple’s 18.6 percent, Xiaomi’s 17.4 percent, Garmin’s 4.1 percent and Chinese vendor BBK’s 3.1 percent, according to US-based International Data Corp.
“Chinese vendors have seized on market momentum to grab market shares,” said Ramon Llamas, analyst of IDC’s wearable team.
