Google's agents demand $6.5 million in compensation

Google China's seven former advertising resellers in East China demanded today a compensation of US$6.50 million after the world's No. 1 online search service provider terminated all business connections with them and their clients.

Google was willing to provide less than US$2 million for the resellers, including US$800,000 of commission and other fees, the resellers said yesterday in a public statement.

Marsha Wang, Google China's spokesperson, didn't answer phone calls today.

The compensation money included resellers' asset investment, employee training and other related costs after they lost Google's reseller status.

"We have lost authorization from Google therefore we have to get back what is owed to us," the resellers said in a statement.

Google has transferred their clients to five resellers in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou during the negotiations with them, which was "unfair" to them and their clients, the resellers said.

In September, Google gave the resellers one month's notice of its decision to terminate the contracts, with the cancelation due to take effect on October 27. Both sides then tried several rounds of negotiations after that date to secure a new deal but without success.

In an earlier statement, Google said it was "actively seeking new resellers."
