HP seeks to take bite of Apple
HEWLETT-PACKARD Inc debuted its latest super-mobility laptop computers globally in Shanghai yesterday, as the world's No. 1 personal computer maker prepares to compete with Apple Inc and Lenovo Group in the ultrabook market.
It was the first time for HP to launch a global product on the Chinese mainland, showing its commitment to the domestic market, the company said yesterday.
HP's new Ultrabooks and Sleekbooks are expected to challenge the market position of Apple's MacBook Air, analysts said.
The Ultrabook is supported by chip giant Intel Corp, which expects the models to become popular in the market by the end of this year.
Globally, Lenovo had a 13.4 percent in the PC market, behind HP's 18 percent at the end of first quarter, according to US research firm International Data Corp.
