Handset sales to double

The Canadian unit of China’s Huawei Technology Co expects to double annual sales of its mobile phones in the next two years as it taps the demand of young consumers, the company’s executive adviser said yesterday.
“Mobile devices will be the fastest growing sector in the company in the next few years,” said Mike Hortie, executive advisor to Huawei Canada. “The business may double this year, and again in 2015.”
He said the company will focus on young consumers and targets to capture 20 percent of Canada’s mobile phone sector in the next three or four years.
“The biggest challenge for Huawei is to move from a technology company to a consumer goods firm,” said Hortie, former president of Motorola Canada.
