Hanvon opens in Taiwan
THE Chinese mainland's biggest e-book maker, Hanvon Technology Co Ltd, opened a subsidiary in Taiwan yesterday and launched its latest model on the island.
The subsidiary, based in the landmark Taipei 101 tower, will develop products, research and sell as well as seek opportunities to work with the island's content providers so as to "expand its share of Chinese-language markets together with its Taiwan partners," said Ray Zhang, chief strategist of Hanvon Technology, at a press conference.
"The establishment of the new platform in Taiwan is an important step to expand globally," he said.
Hanvon founder and chairman, Liu Yingjian, said in a video shown at the press conference that the firm had developed with the support of companies in Taiwan. The screens of its e-book readers were made by Taiwan firms.
"Hanvon cooperates closely with Taiwan companies and the company's products are developed and produced with the joint efforts of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait," he said.
Hanvon has assigned a Taiwan company, Xander, with selling its newest product, the 6-inch N620 e-book reader, on the island. The reader will sell for NT$12,000 (US$384) from next month. Xander would help Hanvon to gradually establish its sales network on the island, Zhang said.
Hanvon also opened the Taiwan site of its online bookstore yesterday.
