Huawei expects revenue to rise up to 20%
HUAWEI Technologies expects revenue to grow 15 to 20 percent year-on-year in 2012, due to the growing telecom service and smart phone business sectors, China's biggest telecommunications maker said yesterday.
Huawei, now the world's No.6 mobile phone maker, said it expects to ship more than 100 million mobile phones this year, almost double last year's level. Among them, 60 percent will be smart phones with a higher profit margin.
Huawei is in the "transformational phase" and is seeking more revenue streams, such as telecom service and smart phones, according to the Shenzhen-based firm.
On Monday, Huawei posted revenue of US$32.3 billion for 2011, up 11.7 percent year on year. Huawei, the world's second biggest telecom equipment maker, is close to world leader Ericsson Inc, which had revenue of US$33.7 billion in 2011.
But Huawei's net profit slumped about 50 percent to 11.6 billion yuan last year.
In 2011, Huawei was blocked from the US and Australia markets, which provide equipment makers a high profit margin, for "political reasons," industry insiders said.
By the end of the fourth quarter, Huawei's market share in the Chinese mainland smart phone market was 13 percent, ranking third behind Samsung's 22 percent and Nokia's 15 percent, according to Analysys International.
Last week, Huawei launched its flagship smart phone model Ascend P1. It features a super thin design and costs 2,999 yuan.
Huawei is expected to launch more smart phones like P1 to replace entry-level phones, which will improve its profit margin over the long term, analysts said.
