Huawei's revenue expands at slower pace
SALES revenue for Huawei Technologies continued to grow, albeit, by a much slower pace of 18 percent year on year in 2009 despite the impact of the global financial crisis, the world's No. 2 telecommunications equipment maker said yesterday.
Huawei generated sales revenue of US$21.5 billion last year. Its sales revenue soared 43 percent in the previous year, according to Huawei.
In 2009, the company's contract sales totaled US$30 billion and domestic income contributed US$10 billion. The company forecast contracted sales to expand 20 percent to US$36 billion this year.
Going forward, Shenzhen-based Huawei will expand development of 4G technology LTE (long term evolution), analysts said.
China has started outdoor 4G LTE testing in Beijing, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Last year, some overseas carriers, including TeliaSonera, became Huawei's clients for 4G, or fourth generation, whose speed is 50 to 100 times faster than 3G networks.
China has issued 3G licenses to three telecom operators. Investment in 3G facilities in 2009 totaled an estimate 143.5 billion yuan (US$21 billion), the ministry said.
