Huawei’s revenue may climb 20% in 2014

HUAWEI Technologies Co said yesterday that its revenue in 2014 is expected to jump 20 percent after China’s No. 1 telecommunications equipment maker expanded into the smartphone and enterprise sectors.

Huawei’s unaudited revenue last year may be between 287 billion yuan (US$46.3 billion) and 289 billion yuan, up from 239 billion yuan in 2013, with profit at 33.9-34.3 billion yuan, Chief Financial Officer Cathy Meng said yesterday in Beijing.

“Huawei’s consumer business has done a good job,” Meng said. “Our global brand awareness increased remarkably.”

Huawei’s consumer business, which covers smartphone sales, jumped 32 percent year on year. The Shenzhen-based company switched focus to popular smartphones like Honor 6 and Mate 7 in the mid- and high-end markets in 2014 from entry-level markets.

Its revenue in the enterprise business, which offers enterprise clients services like cloud computing, data analysis and storage backup, jumped 27 percent last year.

In its telecom equipment business, Huawei’s revenue grew 15 percent globally in 2014, thanks to the booming 4G market. Huawei built 154 4G networks globally last year, accounting for 46 percent of the total 4G networks.
