Innovation, start-ups get funding lift
CHINA Mobile said yesterday it will invest 1 billion yuan (US$154 million) on innovation and startup firms over the next five years to enhance its competitive ability to meet challenges from services like Tencent’s WeChat.
The investment will be spread over about 600 projects by 2020, embracing the Internet of Things and various mobile services like face recognition, said China Mobile, the world’s biggest mobile carrier.
China Mobile will also offer innovative start-ups resources to enhance distribution channels, digital new media and mobile app stores for the carrier’s over 800 million subscribers.
