Intercontinental upbeat

INTERCONTINENTAL Hotels Group said yesterday that it will continue to invest heavily in building its brands in China following a fruitful 2015, adding that it was committed to strong growth in its second-largest market after the US.

The UK-based hospitality giant, which just celebrated the opening of its 5,000th hotel earlier this month, currently runs more than 250 hotels, or nearly 80,000 rooms, in over 80 cities across the country with more than 200 new hotels in the pipeline. Looking forward, IHG said it expects the country’s slower but still stable economic growth, a rising middle-class population coupled with increasing urbanization, to be strong drivers for future growth in the tourism industry with great opportunities in the mid-range segment, boutique hotels and resort properties.
