Internet users seen at 750m in 2015
THE number of Internet users in China will continue to grow and more will access online through mobile devices in five years, McKinsey & Co said in a latest report.
The consulting firm forecast a total of 750 million online population in China by 2015, of which more than 35 percent will be from rural areas, its "Understanding China's Digital Consumers" report said.
Chinese digital consumers spend an average of 40 hours online every week, offering room for significant growth compared with American users who spend 93 hours weekly, the report said.
"Although television still remains the most widely-covered media sector, social networking sites are taking up more time with the online population," said Davis Lin, a partner in McKinsey's Taipei office.
The report said heavy Internet users, which include "digital junkies" and "gamers," spend twice as much time online as average users. They account for about 15 percent of the total online population.
