Intersil expansion
INTERSIL Corp, which acquired two firms in the past 12 months, will continue to seek acquisition opportunities and strengthen research in China.
The United States-based analog semiconductor maker hopes to become a US$1 billion company in 2011, from US$770 million in 2008, David Bell, president and chief executive of Intersil, said in Shanghai.
"Intersil is committed to expanding its business through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions."
China, where Intersil has clients including Huawei and BYD, is the firm's key market because more than 50 percent of its products are made in the country. But only 10 percent of them are now designed in China and the portion will be greatly lifted.
In the past year, Intersil used about "US$10 million" to acquire Chinese design firm Rock Semiconductor for power management and paid US$370 million to buy Techwell in the security and in-car entertainment sectors.
