JD.com taps more into rural areas with Huaining County
JD.com said yesterday it entered into a strategic relationship with Huaining County from Anhui Province to foster e-commerce development in the rural areas.
Vice County Chief of Huaining County Liu Dengyin signed the agreement with JD Vice General Manager at Eastern China Region Peng Cheng to deepen penetration of e-commerce in the region as well as leverage its logistics network to help sell specialty agricultural products to e-commerce shoppers.
Expanding business into rural areas has been a key strategy of e-commerce players including Alibaba and JD.com.
JD hopes that it not only serves as a sales channel, but also a service provider and business partner to drive synergies from both sides.
Alibaba’s logistics network now covers more than 2,000 counties and villages.
JD.com now hosts a total of 56 local government-authorized specialty stores for farm products and hopes to add more in the future as online shoppers’ demand for local specialty products are booming.
Chen Shaofeng, operation director of logistics services at JD eastern China region, said the website hopes to further utilize its advantages of marketing, delivery and dispatch facilities to help merchants from different place of the country.
