Joint efforts

ALCATEL-LUCENT, through its subsidiary Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, and Aruba Networks Inc announced yesterday in Shanghai they will cooperate on Wi-Fi systems and related services for enterprise users and government agencies in China.

It signaled the companies latest expansion into China's WLAN (wireless local area network) market worth US$3 billion annually, industry insiders said.

Alcatel-Lucent and Aruba will offer high-performance, cost-efficient mobility services to carriers and enterprises in China with Wi-Fi solutions, remote access and network management services.

Chinese companies are expanding their reach within the country and globally to tap on improvements in 3G and Wi-Fi technologies, said Dominic Orr, president and chief executive of Aruba.

In 2010, Chinese WLAN operations and service market revenue reached US$2.93 billion, an annual 39 percent growth, according to Nuoda Advisory Co, a Beijing-based consulting firm.
