Junk phone calls top 8b

INTERNET security firm Qihoo 360 said yesterday that it blocked 8 billion unwanted phone calls and 8 billion spam messages in the second quarter of the year.
The bulk of the calls, 22 percent, came from Shanghai, followed by Guangdong Province at 14.6 percent and Zhejiang Province at 7.2 percent, it said.
The results were based on calls made to Qihoo’s 800 million users.
About 5.5 million new malicious mobile apps were identified in the quarter, most of which consumed people’s data and posed security risks, it said.
