LeTV eyes smart TV to beat rivals
LETV, a Chinese online video company, will unveil a smart TV model manufactured by Foxconn later this year under a partnership which bids to fend off its rivals and consolidate its market position.
The smart TV model will be launched in the third quarter of this year, the co-founder and chief operating officer of LeTV, Liu Hong, said in an interview in Shanghai yesterday. By launching smart TV sets and set-top boxes, LeTV will allow online video viewers to access its content library.
The move is likely to cement its market position and fight off Youku Tudou Inc and Sohu TV.
Shenzhen-listed LeTV disclosed earlier this year it will invest up to 100 million yuan with partners to invest in smart TV applications and other relevant projects.
