Lenovo aims to be different and unique
LENOVO Group, the world’s No. 1 PC maker, yesterday launched three new Yoga models including a tablet computer with projection features as it strives to be unique and different from its rivals.
The company hopes this tablet computer that is able to project images will help differentiate it from Apple’s iPad and Microsoft’s Surface tablets.
The other two new products are a detachable tablet-laptop hybrid computer and a laptop.
“We have unique design and craftsmanship on Yoga,” said Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo’s chairman and chief executive who also calls himself “chief product manager of Lenovo.”
The Yoga products are priced from 1,999 yuan (US$314), cheaper than Apple’s iPad and Microsoft’s Surface models.
Lenovo unveiled the new products in Beijing despite a slump in the global tablet market in recent quarters. All tablet computer makers, including Apple, are facing a tough market environment, research firms said.
In the third quarter, the global tablet computer market sold 48.7 million units, down 12.6 percent from a year ago, as vendors were challenged by smartphones with bigger screens. Lenovo still grew 0.9 percent in the quarter, said IDC, a US-based research firm.
