Lenovo beats HP to top PC spot
LENOVO overtook Hewlett-Packard for the first time by market share in the personal-computer segment in the third quarter, an industry report said yesterday.
Lenovo captured 15.7 percent of global PC shipments to beat HP's 15.5 percent to the top spot in the three months ended on September 30, US research firm Garner said in a report.
"Lenovo has achieved significant market share gains over the last two years at a higher growth rate than the regional average, with its aggressive pricing strategies," Gartner said.
Lenovo's quarterly shipments totaled 13.8 million units, an increase of 9.8 percent from a year earlier, making it the only vendor among the top three to record an annual growth.
HP's share in the three-month period shrank from 17 percent a year earlier, and Dell's also declined to 10.5 percent from 11.2 percent.
