Lenovo launches Z1 phone
LENOVO Group Ltd yesterday officially launched its ZUK smartphone brand as part of its ongoing program of diversification.
The first product from the unit is the Z1 model, which boasts fingerprint recognition and rapid battery charging.
The handset, which runs on the Android operating system and comes with a 13-mega-pixel camera, was launched yesterday and is available only through online channels at a price of 1,799 yuan (US$285).
The phone is also available overseas through Motorola channels. Lenovo last year bought Motorola Mobility from Google Inc for US$2.9 billion.
Dwindling sales are pushing many smartphone companies to diversify. Sales in China fell 4.3 percent year on year to 98.8 million units in the first quarter, according to research firm IDC.
