Lenovo targets profitability within 2 years
LENOVO Group Ltd aims to reverse its loss-making mobile phone business to profit within two years as it taps small-screen models and increases market spending.
Lenovo yesterday launched a low-priced small-sized smartphone Zuk Z2 with rich features, which will start selling on Tuesday from 1,799 yuan (US$277). It features a 5-inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 64 gigabyte storage, fingerprint and long battery life.
“We strongly believe that small-sized models have great potential among Chinese consumers, especially female users,” said Chang Cheng, vice president who leads the Zuk brand.
Apple has also launched 4-inch iPhone SE in March targeting the small-screen device market.
Lenovo, the world’s biggest personal computer maker, will raise market spending and launch two or three generation Zuk and Motorola models domestically in the next two years.
Lenovo’s smartphone business will turn profitable around 2018, according to Chen Xudong, Lenovo’s senior vice president.
